Preserving Your Past with Professionalism, Integrity and Pride

Course - Conserving Your Family History

This course has a strong hands-on element and focuses on restoring a valued family document. Together we will determine a suitable project based on an assessment of a few of your treasures, which you will bring to the first class.

You will be introduced to the factors of deterioration and how to prevent further destruction.

You will perform such treatments as washing a document, repairing a tear with Japanese repair paper, replacing a loss of paper or image and an encapsulation.

You will also learn how to create a protective enclosure for your repaired document, how to create a window mat for display purposes and how to make a custom-built archival box to house your family treasures.

A Carr McLean Archival Supplies Catalogue will be provided for each student.

Conserving Your Family History runs for 5 classes. Each class is 2 ½ hours long and is held on Saturday mornings from 10 am - 12:30 pm. This course is on-going throughout the year and will begin when two or more participants have registered. The cost is $350.00* including all taxes and materials.

Workshop - Basic Stabilization of Documents and Photographs

In this workshop you will discover how to protect your family documents and photographs. You will learn to identify quality archival materials and how to use them in your own collection.

The hands-on component of this workshop includes encapsulating a document, making photo corners and mounting a photograph, and creating a small protective folder.
